Old legends say, Ephesus was founded by Amazons or female warriors. Its name was derived from the word Apasas which means the City of the Mother Goddess. During the Classical Greece, Ephesus was situated in Ionia and was a city of ancient Anatolia. In ancient times, Ephesus was considered the home of the Temple of Artemis. Today, the ruins of Ephesus is located a bit over 40 miles of Izmir. Ephesus is a world renowned archeological site and tourist attraction.
